Nurse in V-J Day kiss photo dies

A nurse famously photographed being kissed by an American sailor in New York's Times Square in 1945 to celebrate the end of World War Two has died at the age of 91, her family said on Tuesday. Read the full story here.

May 5, 1945: Japanese Balloon Bomb Kills 6 in Oregon

'Daniel Boone' star Fess Parker dies

Fess Parker, best known for playing Daniel Boone in a 1960s television series, died Thursday at his home near Santa Barbara, California, his publicist said. He was 85. A native of Texas, Parker served in the U.S. Navy during World War II before graduating from the University of Texas-Austin in 1950.

Female WWII aviators honored with gold medal

These aviators — all women — got long-overdue recognition on Wednesday. They received the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor given by Congress, in a ceremony on Capitol Hill. They flew non-combat missions, but 38 were killed in service. You can read the full story from MSNBC here.
